A short video around the outside of Chance showing the work we have ahead of us over the coming months and into the next four to five years.
This is our 120th video about our journey to restore Chance our 1948 James Silver "Western Isles" motorsailer. Through our ups and downs along the way and how we face these challenges and overcome the problems put in our way by Chance and the way she as been repaired in the past for better or worse and people how think they know better about how to best repair a classic vessel such as Chance. I am doing these videos to chart the progress from a neglected boat unloved for many years to once again sailing the high seas once more with my family and friends.
This weekend , on Saturday to be precise we were able to get Chance covered up for the first time in a long while, it took a lot of pulling of ropes and a bit of burt force to man handle the cover into position and over the top of Chances's foredeck and over the wheelhouse and then over the aft cabin, however, we got there in the end and now the top of Chance is now covered and the cover is so wide it was able to get down on to the ground on both sides and cover the hull as well. Then on Sunday Simon had the not so glamours job of emptying the bilges of water that had collected in the bilges along with bits of leaves and wood off the work done on the starboard side earlier in the year which because of family issues had not been clean up before today when Simon was cleaning up the inside of the boat from stem to stern. Now we have got a cover over her this will give Chance a chance o dry out and make it able to work on her over the winter months. Just ogot to cover the ends up with a couple of small covers to keep the ends dry as well. However, the donation of a large cover to cover to cover up Chance was very grateful and will help no end to keep the project going over the winter months. Now the cover is over the boat we can set up some lights in the boats interior to give us light when we are working on the boat. So let the fun begin.

Call out for volunteers to help to remove the deck planking so that we can steam the new ribs that need to going Chance before we can re-plank the hull where it is necessary and get a big cover to go over Chance for the winter months while we raise funds for a temporary shed to go over Chance so that work can continue on the decks and planking on the hull and help keep the interior of Chance dry.
